Getting to the Island

Mackinac Island can only be reached by ferry or plane. Because Labor Day weekend is a particularly busy time, we recommend making your travel plans and booking accommodations as soon as possible to ensure a smooth and memorable visit.

arriving by ferry

Most guests will reach Mackinac Island via a delightful 15-minute ferry ride departing every 15-30 minutes from Mackinaw City (Northernmost city on the lower state of Michigan) or St. Ignace (on the Upper Peninsula of Michigan). As you sail across the waters, enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of Lake Huron, Lake Michigan, and the 5-mile long Mighty Mackinac Bridge.

We’re pleased to offer discounted ferry tickets through Shepler’s Ferry. To purchase your tickets in advance, please use the online promotion code 25augwed (all lowercase, one word) starting April 21st and valid through the last day of our event. Visit sheplersferry.com when tickets become available. Alternatively, you can reference our wedding name at the ticket office to receive your discounted rate in person.

Please note that online tickets are not yet available for sale, but the promotion code will activate at the start of Shepler Ferry’s season on April 21st. We highly recommend checking schedules and purchasing your tickets early, as the holiday weekend tends to sell out quickly. Additionally, parking rates and the ferry schedule will be posted soon.

arriving by air

Mackinac Island has a small airport served by private or chartered planes, as well as daily flights from St. Ignace via Fresh Air Aviation.

If you prefer a commercial option, Pellston Regional Airport (PLN)—served by Delta and United—is just a 25-minute drive from the Mackinaw City ferry docks. From Pellston, you can pre-arrange transportation with Mackinaw Shuttle for a quick trip to the ferry. Cherry Capital Airport (TVC) in Traverse City is another convenient choice, with ground transportation available to the ferry docks.

airport transportation

Pellston Regional Airport (PLN) is roughly a 25-minute drive from the Mackinaw City ferry docks, while Cherry Capital Airport (TVC) in Traverse City is about two hours away. Both airports offer rental car services if you prefer to drive yourself, though ride-share services (like Uber or Lyft) are not available in this region. We recommend arranging transportation in advance—Mackinaw Shuttle and other local providers offer private transfers for a stress-free start to your Mackinac Island adventure.
